An Open Letter Regarding the Former Leaders of Abolition Apostles

Written by AA volunteers in collaboration with others, the letter documents harm in abolitionist, faith, and movement spaces.

Dear community members,

Earlier this year, the founders and former leaders of Abolition Apostles, David Brazil and Sarah Pritchard, unexpectedly left our collective after they were invited into an accountability process by the Abolition Apostles volunteer community. We now have an open letter to share more details about these and related events.

It turns out, unfortunately, that David and Sarah’s abrupt departure after causing harm was part of a long-standing pattern. This open letter—the result of a collaboration among current and former Abolition Apostles volunteers as well as individuals who knew Sarah and David in other contexts—documents a seven-year span of harm they caused in various abolitionist, faith, and movement spaces. Considering David and Sarah’s prior involvement with our collective, we feel a sincere responsibility to share the information we have with this community. Saddened as we are to do so, we act out of solidarity with and care for our friends inside—and feel this letter is the best means currently available to us to limit future harm.
